There are undoubtedly many people who have landed on a solo attorney’s website and been immediately impressed with the site’s layout and design. There’s nothing better than searching the Internet for an attorney who provides a specific type of legal service, and quickly locating a website that displays information in a clear, concise and well-organized manner. A legal website that was obviously designed and developed with current and potential clients in mind can be incredibly enticing.

Solo in Colo recently published an article, Website Design Tips for a Solo Attorney, which stresses the importance of including an abundance of insightful and informative content on your website. Content can be used to enhance your website as well as your solo law firm’s presence on the internet. But besides great content, there are several other ways to make your website appealing to your existing and potential clients.

To create an engaging website that appeals to clients looking for a solo attorney, take the following into consideration:

Organize your website so information is easy to find. As stated above, a website that offers helpful and informative content can be invaluable to individuals who are scouring the internet in hopes of finding guidance on legal matters. But what good is a website that is packed with content if it’s disorganized and difficult to maneuver? A solo attorney website should offer practical legal guidance, but it should also present the information in a well-organized fashion.

Keep your website simple, yet useful. It’s impossible to anticipate the specific legal needs of each prospective client who may land on your website. But if your law firm focuses on a certain legal area, it’s important to include general information about that area of law on your website. Instead of having a one-page website that includes only your picture, your name and your address, make sure to provide other, more in-depth information about your law firm. Who are your typical clients? What types of legal matters have you handled in the past? What is your solo law firm’s mission statement?

Make sure your website is responsive and easy to view on mobile devices. According to an article published by USAToday, More Americans Using Mobile Devices to Access Internet, “Usage of Smartphones and tablets to check email, browse the Web and log on to social networks in greater numbers is up sharply.” Due to the increase in mobile device usage, any solo attorney who has website that is not built to display correctly on a mobile device may miss prospective business opportunities.

As a solo attorney, you want a website that is functional, useful, and makes a statement about you and your law firm. Just about every business around the world has a website – but some websites are significantly more engaging than others. Make sure your website is enticing by developing a site that is geared towards your clients. Additionally, keep your website updated and ageless. If your website contains outdated information, it might not leave a positive impression on prospective clients. Do your best to maintain a website that is accurate, current and timeless.
